Why Is Instagram Asking for My Birthday

According to Ofcom, most children under the age of 13 have a profile on at least one social networking site or site.

The internet is a wide and expansive area, and although it has brought a lot of good to the world, it can also be dangerous, especially for new users.

According to Ofcom’s 2022 annual report on media use and attitudes, almost all children went online by 2021 (99%) and most children under the age of 13 had their own profile on at least one social media platform or site.

The report found that 33% of parents of children aged five to seven said their child had a history, and 60% of eight to 11 said they had.

In most forums, users must be at least 13 years old to sign up. (Why Is Instagram Asking for My Birthday)

What are the terms and conditions of Instagram?

While just asking a user’s age to let them sign up sounds like an easy obstacle for younger users, the question of verifying user age is a “complex challenge” according to Facebook.

Says a social media giant: “Many argue that ID collection is the answer to the industry problem, but there are important limitations in this process: most young people do not have an ID, ID collection is not a fair or equitable solution, and it is not unreasonable.”

It goes on to say that obtaining a government identity document depends on where you live in the world as well as the information contained in the ID such as your date of birth. Additionally, some who have access to IDs may not be able to access them unless they choose to travel – while others simply cannot afford them.
The terms and conditions of Instagram stipulate that all users must be “at least 13 years old”.

This is consistent with almost all other social media platforms, including the parent company Instagram, although in some countries, the minimum age is higher.

When you sign up for an account, users are asked for their birthday – this is called the age screen. Facebook says “those minors are not allowed to sign up, and we limit people who repeatedly try to enter different birthdays on the age screen”.
